BRIEF
To provide a design that would take an overlooked, tired and hard landscape dominated space and transform it into an oasis of calm colours, textures and plants for the clients to enjoy when they were in London

SOLUTION
The courtyard was situated ontop of an underground car park which meant there was no naturally occurring soil on site, little room to create levels, plenty of loading, drainage and protection issues to solve before we even got to creating vertical structures within the space. However, using a pedestal system we created a series of voids to run infrastructure, had bespoke planters made to accommodate soil and bespoke painted slats for the fencing. The green and blue and greys soften the space allowing the western red cedar wood to make a dramatic impact along with selected plant specimens.

OUTCOME
Although the courtyard remains overlooked, all the interest remains within now drawing the eye in as opposed to being distracted by the tired looking hardscape architecture above and beyond. The soft tones for blue and grey matched to the planting really draw one into the space almost forgetting the surrounding high rise, intense, hard environment.
